TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

Robert A. Taft Information Technology High School has six computer labs, all of which have been constructed since August 2001.  Nearly $2,000,000 worth of renovations and equipment have been added to the school.  Because of these recent additions, Robert A. Taft has become a showcase for Information Technology.
 
Information Technology Foundations Labs
Two labs are called Information Technology Foundations Labs and are mainly reserved for use by Preparatory Academy students.  The Foundations Course is a one-semester course taken in each of the two Preparatory Academy years.  Students complete up to 10 hours of instruction in each of 17 different areas of Information Technology. 
 
Interactive Media Senior Institute Lab
The Interactive Media Senior Institute Lab is very similar to the Foundations Labs, but has a sole focus on the following strands:  Digital Sound, Digital Photography, Multimedia Production, Graphics and Animation, Digital Video Production, Web Design, and Computer-Aided Publishing.   These same strands are covered in the Foundation Labs; however, in the Interactive Media Lab, students can complete up to 40 hours of instruction per module.  Students also receive additional instruction as well as complete projects related to Interactive Media. CISCO Networking Academy Lab
The CISCO Networking Academy Lab houses Networking 1 and 2 classes.  This lab looks like a more traditional lab, but includes other equipment specific to networking needs.    In addition to the Networking classes, A+ Certification classes are also taught in the CISCO lab.    Please follow the following link to learn more about the Senior Institute Program:  Senior Institute.
 
Information Services and Support
Students enrolled in the Information Services and Support Senior Institute learn everything there is to know about computer repair and support.  Students are actively engaged in learning how to assemble and disassemble computers as well as to provide support for people having computer problems.  Students enrolled in this program are equipped with skills needed to pass the A+ Certification test.  Please visit the following site for more information regarding this certification:  http://www.comptia.org/certification/a/default.aspx.
 
General Purpose Computer Lab
The General Purpose Computer Lab is currently under instruction.  This lab will serve as a place for teachers to bring an entire class for research, instruction, etc.  This lab will equipped with 30 state-of-the-art computers as well as two Smart Boards for instruction.
 
Community Computer Center
The Community Computer Center is currently under instruction.  The Community Center will include 30 state-of-the-art computers and a Smart Board in one lab as well as 10 computers out in the general purpose area of the center.  Additionally, the Center will be equipped to house large group meetings of up to 50 people.  An LCD projector connected to a DVD/VCR and computer will be available for presentations.  Further, video-conferencing will also be available.

Other Technology

All classrooms are equipped with wireless technology to enable wireless laptop computers to be used.  Further, Smart Boards are being used in many math classrooms.  LCD projectors are available for use in classrooms on a loan basis.
